The Backyard Ultra is an ultra-endurance race that originated in the United States, in which participants must complete a 6.706-kilometre loop in under an hour, before setting off on another loop at the start of the next hour. The principle is simple: to complete as many laps as possible, whilst managing your effort, nutrition and recovery to last as long as possible. There is no predefined finishing distance: the race ends when there is only one participant left capable of completing a lap within the allotted time. For organisational reasons, however, the event is limited to 38 hours, i.e. a maximum of 38 laps and 254.8 kilometres.
Following two successful editions in Ardon, this year’s event marks the first time the Backyard Ultra Valais has finished in Saillon. The adventure will also continue in Ardon at Easter 2027 for a new edition.
