The Saillon tourist office offers via ferrata equipment for hire. Please consult the rental criteria below, as well as our FAQ.
Hire criteria
Please allow 15 minutes for collection (safety briefing + equipment test). All persons hiring kit must be present for collection.
- Must be at least 16 years old (16-17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult)
- This equipment can only be used on the Saillon via ferrata
- Equipment can be collected during our opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 12pm.
- An identity document will be required as a deposit.
Please note Priority for hiring kits is given to people who have booked and paid online in advance. Please consult the online calendar to check availability. Please note that some dates may be blocked due to special events.
New “via ferrata voucher”: For every rental of a via ferrata kit, a CHF 5 voucher is offered, valid on the same day in partner restaurants, cafés and bars. This offer cannot be combined with other vouchers or reductions on guest cards

What are the opening hours and where do I meet up?
Tourist Office counter at Les Bains de Saillon (Route du Centre-Thermal 14): Monday to Saturday, 9.00 am to 12.00 pm
How do I return the equipment?
Equipment is returned at reception at the Hôtel des Bains, which is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Is it possible to collect or return equipment outside opening hours?
Equipment can only be collected during our opening hours, as our team needs to provide you with information on how to use the equipment.
What equipment is included in the via ferrata kit?
The kit contains a helmet, a harness and a lanyard with two carabiners. We do not hire out equipment separately.
Which size should I choose based on my height and weight?
You must weigh between 40 kg and 120 kg to use these kits. We recommend a height of at least 1.55 m so that you can easily reach the handholds.
We offer three harness sizes for hire:
• Size S: from 1.55 m
• Size M-L: up to 1.75 m
• Size XL: from 1.80 m
Depending on your hip measurement, the size of the harness may vary (you may need a larger or smaller size). You can try on the different sizes on site.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, we’ll ask you to show proof of identity when you hire equipment.
What is the minimum age for hiring a via ferrata kit in Saillon?
We hire out via ferrata kits to people aged 16 and over. Minors must be at least 1.55 m tall, weigh 40 kg and be accompanied by an adult.
Can I use this kit on another via ferrata?
No, the equipment hired from the Saillon Tourist Office must be used exclusively on the Via Farinetta.
What is the difficulty level of the Via Farinetta?
The Via Farinetta is a via ferrata rated from ‘fairly difficult’ to ‘very difficult’. It is therefore advisable to have already completed other via ferratas, or to have some climbing experience, before attempting it. The third section is reserved for experienced climbers.

How long does the route take?
The route is divided into three sections:
• Part 1: difficulty level: 45 mins.
• Part 2: difficulty level: 45 mins.
• Part 3: duration: 30 mins.
You’ll need to allow extra time for the approach walk (approx. 20 minutes) and the return journey (approx. 45 minutes).
How does the ‘via ferrata voucher’ work?
Everyone who hires a kit for CHF 25.00 is given a voucher worth CHF 5.00, valid at partner restaurants (listed on the back of the voucher):
- The voucher can only be used once.
- The voucher is valid only on the date of kit hire, as stated on the voucher.
- No change will be given if the bill is less than CHF 5.–.
- If the bill exceeds CHF 5.–, the customer simply pays the difference.
This discount does not apply to people who have a voucher for kit hire, or who already have a discount via a guest card.
What are the cancellation or postponement terms?
- More than 24 hours before the booking time: 100% refund
- Less than 24 hours before the booking time, up until the ticket office opens on the day of the activity: 50 per cent of the amount remains payable
- From the time the ticket office opens on the day of the activity, or in the event of a no-show: 100 per cent of the amount remains payable
- Rescheduling: possible by telephone or email, free of charge, up until 12 noon on the day before the booking
