The Saillon tourist office offers via ferrata equipment for hire. Please consult the rental criteria below, as well as our FAQ.
Hire criteria
Please allow 15 minutes for collection (safety briefing + equipment test). All persons hiring kit must be present for collection.
- Must be at least 16 years old (16-17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult)
- This equipment can only be used on the Saillon via ferrata
- Equipment can be collected during our opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 12pm.
- An identity document will be required as a deposit.
Please note Priority for hiring kits is given to people who have booked and paid online in advance. Please consult the online calendar to check availability. Please note that some dates may be blocked due to special events.
New “via ferrata voucher”: For every rental of a via ferrata kit, a CHF 5 voucher is offered, valid on the same day in partner restaurants, cafés and bars. This offer cannot be combined with other vouchers or reductions on guest cards

When and where can I be picked up?
Tourist office counter at the Bains de Saillon (route du centre-thermal 14): Monday to Saturday, 9am to 12pm
How do I return my equipment?
Equipment can be returned to the Hôtel des bains reception, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Is it possible to collect or return equipment outside opening hours?
Equipment can only be collected during our opening hours, as our team will need to give you information on how to use the equipment.
What equipment does the via ferrata kit contain?
The kit contains a helmet, a harness and a lanyard with two carabiners. We do not hire out the equipment separately.
What size should I choose according to my height and weight?
You need to weigh a minimum of 40 kg and a maximum of 120 kg to be able to use these kits. We recommend that you are at least 1.55 m tall so that you can easily reach the handles.
We offer three sizes of harness for hire:
– Size S: from 1.55 m
– Size M-L: up to 1m75
– Size XL: from 1m80
Depending on your hip size, the size of the harness may vary (go bigger or smaller). You can try on the different sizes on site.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
Yes, we will ask you for proof of identity when you hire the equipment.
What is the minimum age for hiring a via ferrata kit in Saillon?
We hire via ferrata sets to people aged 16 and over. Minors must be at least 1.55 m tall, weigh 40 kg and be accompanied by an adult.
Can I use this equipment on another via ferrata?
No, the equipment hired by the Saillon Tourist Office may only be used on the via Farinetta.
How difficult is the via Farinetta?
The via Farinetta is a via ferrata rated from “fairly difficult” to “very difficult”. It is therefore advisable to have already done other via ferrata, or to have done some climbing, before embarking on it. The third part is reserved for experienced climbers.
How long does the route last?
The route is divided into three parts:
– Part 1: level: 45min.
– Part 2: level: 45min.
– Part 3: level: 30min.
Allow extra time for the access walk (approx. 20 minutes) and the return journey (approx. 45 minutes).
How does the “via ferrata voucher” work?
Anyone who hires a kit for CHF 25.00 will receive a CHF 5.00 voucher valid in partner restaurants (specified on the back of the voucher):
- The voucher can be used in one go.
- The voucher is valid only on the kit hire date shown on the voucher.
- No change is to be given if consumption is less than CHF 5.
- If consumption exceeds CHF 5, the customer simply pays the difference.
This reduction does not apply to people who have a rental voucher, or who already have a reduction via a guest card.
